Anna Vozakova and Misty May-Treanor seemed to be up in Olympic Games 2012

As competitors' kit consists of little more than a bikini, the sport already enjoys a large male following. By harnessing this, the players are likely all too award that they can generate enough of a fan base to win them lucrative endorsement deals once the Games are over.

Indeed, today's beach volleyball players weren't alone. Yesterday Russian Anna Vozakova appeared to be getting a little too friendly when hugging her teammate Anastasia Vasina.

20+ Female Beach Volleyball Olympic’s 2012 who touching their partner “Butt & Ass”

The women's beach volleyball was always going to be an exciting event at the London Olympics, but today, it seems those in the stands got more than they bargained for.

As if representing their countries was not task enough, the competitors from Canada and Italy appear to have been as preoccupied with reaching for one another as they were for the ball.

In what one can only assume is an attempt to garner more support from the audience, players could not seem to keep their hands off each other.

Female Beach Volleyball players paraded their “Bikini” bodies on Day 2 of 2012 Olympics

Maybe it’s the troupe of bikini-clad cheerleaders who keep dashing out to dance the conga and writhe on all fours.

Or it could be the Benny Hill theme tune that blasts out every time the linesmen rush forward to rake the sand off the red court lines.

Or perhaps it’s the DJ yelling: ‘This  isn’t Wimbledon, you’re allowed to make some noise here!’

Whatever it is, women’s beach volleyball is not your average Olympic sport.

Cheerleaders perform during Women's Beach Volleyball on Day 1 of the 2012 Olympics

Fortunately, his fears were never realised. As a beach volleyball virgin, I have no idea whether London in the rain has the same je ne sais quoi as the sun-kissed beaches of Ipanema, or Santa Monica. Though I assume the cheerleaders don’t usually stand shivering in dressing gowns between dances.
